TAIPEI MUNICIPAL UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION

Introduction

The history of Taipei Municipal University of Education began as Academy of Language in Taipei Chih Shan Yen in 1895. Within its 113-year history, the university has gone through different stages from Language Grammar School, Normal School, Normal School for Girls, Teachers Junior College, and was upgraded to a prominent, city-supported normal college in 1987. The year 2005 marked the beginning of the new era of the school, transforming itself again into an “Art and Sciences University with an emphasis on teacher education.” The university will preserve its outstanding tradition in teacher education while strengthening the spirit and content of liberal arts education. It will also develop distinctive graduate programs and offer good extension education for the public.

Location

Located at the central district of Taipei City, the campus of Taipei Municipal University of Education covers an area of 4.4329 hectares. Though of a limited space, the university adjoins to those important arts and educational institute such as National Central Library, The National Theater and the National Concert Hall, Nan-hi Learning Garden and several junior high and elementary schools. In addition, the public recreation ground including 228 Memorial Park, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, and the Taipei Botanic Garden are within walk distance. Taking advantages of the abundance, diversity and vitality of an energetic city, the university presents unique aspects of metropolitan academic organization.
